Choose where your words belong.
Open a PDF or create a blank one. Choose Add text to put new visible words on the page. For a note or a highlight, choose Review → Annotate. Adding a text box leaves the existing words in place; use Edit text when you want to change supported existing text.
Write, then place.
- Choose Text box in the Tool list and enter your words in Text or comment.
- Choose a color and enter the Text size (points). Use a dot for decimals, such as 21.5.
- Drag a box on the PDF page where you want the text, then release to place it.
- Check the page. A successful placement changes your working PDF and can be undone. Choose Save a copy when it is ready.
For a note, select Comment, enter its words, and drag on the page to place it. For a highlight, choose Highlight and drag over the area. A highlight does not place words you have typed into Text or comment.
Switch tools without starting again.
In the 0.63 preview, Add text and Annotate each keep their own words and settings for every open PDF. You can change tools or pages, save a copy, or use PDF Undo and Redo, then return to the same values. Switching to another open PDF keeps those values with the first tab; returning to it brings them back.
The panel marks Unplaced changes when words or settings have changed since the options last used to place them. Merely typing, changing tools or saving does not put anything on the page. After a successful placement, the options stay ready to use again.
Decide what to keep.
Choose Discard unplaced changes to return to the last accepted options, or the starting defaults if you have not placed anything yet. This leaves text and marks already on the PDF alone. PDF Undo and Redo work on applied page changes; they do not undo typing in this panel.
When you close or replace a PDF with unplaced changes, Pagekind asks before discarding them. Choose No to keep working if you still need the words. If a later save or close is canceled, the values remain with the open PDF.
Know what Save keeps.
Save a copy and Save open copies include only content placed in the PDF. Unplaced words and settings can remain in the panel after a successful save. Place them and save another copy if you want them in a file.
These unplaced values last only while their PDF is open. They are not restored by Recover after the app closes or is interrupted. Applied PDF changes use the separate working-copy recovery workflow.
If placement needs another try.
Read the explanation and correct the setting or draw a larger box. A refused or canceled placement keeps your unplaced values. Press Escape to cancel an unfinished drag. Changing the page, tool or input during a drag cancels that gesture; start a fresh drag on the page you intend to change.
This guide describes the unsigned 0.65.0 engineering preview. Text placement still has font, fit and PDF permission limits. Highlights and rectangles do not remove underlying content; use the separate redacted image-copy workflow for that task.
